PRP Microneedling

Scarborough, ME

A PRP facial is a treatment that boosts levels of elastin and collagen in your skin. The substances are abundant in young skin, but levels start to decrease in your late 20s or 30s, leaving the skin vulnerable to wrinkles and lines. Sun damage speeds up this process, which is why people who spend time outdoors without sunscreen tend to look older much sooner than people of the same age who have stayed out of the sun or used sunscreen.

A PRP facial rejuvenation is an advanced skincare treatment method that harnesses your body’s own natural power to heal itself. It involves drawing your blood and reinjecting your own platelets under your skin. Your blood is made up of four primary components: red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, and platelets.

When the platelets in the plasma are concentrated, magic happens. To achieve concentrated levels of platelets in plasma, all four components of your blood are separated by density. Then, the platelets are injected into the plasma, excluding the red and white blood cells.

PRP therapy is used to describe any application of PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, to benefit the body. In the context of anti-aging, platelet-rich plasma is either injected into your skin at specific depths according to your aesthetic needs or the “blood” is spread on top of your face during treatment. Eventually, the PRP is absorbed by your skin. This cuts the recovery time from microneedling down to nothing while speeding along the collagen production process.

PRP Microneedling FAQ

  • Am I a candidate for a PRP facial?

PRP is a component of your own blood that we use for the PRP facial procedure, so you need not worry about allergic reactions or other unwanted side effects. The PRP facial is recommended for patients who want to delay the aging process or who have minor early signs of aging, such as fine lines.

  • How is a PRP facial performed?

The first step for a PRP facial is to extract the plasma from your blood. We take a small sample and process it in a special machine that separates the components. Next, the plasma is loaded into a syringe and injected into areas of your face where we determine where extra collagen and elastin are needed.

  • What is recovery like after a PRP facial?

The PRP facial does not require any downtime or special aftercare.

  • How long will PRP facial results last?

PRP facials increase collagen and elastin in the skin, and your body will continue to break down and replenish these substances as part of aging. The length of time in between your PRP facial treatments is highly variable. We will recommend a schedule of follow-up appointments to monitor when you need another PRP facial. Some patients find that they only need PRP facials every one to two years.
