Botox

As people age, the skin loses elasticity, which causes any shallow facial wrinkles to become deeper lines and creases. Actions like smiling or frowning cause you to use the same facial muscles time and time again to express those feelings, but due to the lost elasticity, they also result in facial wrinkles.

Botox is an injectable cosmetic treatment derived from Botulinum Toxin A to target your so-called “dynamic” facial wrinkles, referred to as such because they disappear once you stop moving your facial muscles. Expressions that cause dynamic facial wrinkles include smiling, laughing, squinting, and frowning – once you stop any of them, wrinkles disappear.

Botox FAQ

  • Botox vs. Dysport - how are they different?

Both the Botox and Dysport Botulinum toxin are the same, so the effects of both treatments are similar.

According to some Dysport reviews from both patients and medical professionals, it works faster and lasts longer. Its effects typically take effect in 2-5 days while those of Botox usually take 4-7 days. Regarding the duration of results, some patients have reported results lasting over 12 months, although the normal time is 3-4 months, slightly longer than the 3-month average for Botox. However, keep in mind that these results are mixed and inconsistent.

A very important distinction is the amount of targeted area that each treatment covers. Once injected, Dysport seems to spread over a slightly larger area of the face – it’s reported that Dysport spreads three centimeters out from the injection site whereas Botox spreads only about one centimeter.

  • How long does treatment take?

A treatment takes approximately 15-30 minutes.

  • Is treatment painful?

No! The Botox injection is virtually painless and doesn’t require anesthesia. If you prefer, you can request a numbing cream applied to the area prior to application.

  • When will I see the results?

The full effect won’t be noticed for several days, but results will appear within a week.

  • What can Botox treat?

For frown lines between the eyebrows, the vertical lines that resemble an “11,” Botox can be an excellent treatment. An area where it is particularly effective is on glabellar lines, the forehead lines caused by squinting, stress, or thinking hard about something.

Another area where BOTOX injections work quite well is the area around the corners of the eyes, commonly called crow’s feet.
